Ending Human Rights Violations With Investors Weight

I am more amazed the more I learn about Calvert Investments. Calvert Investments is a leader in the Socially Responsible Investment movement. I love the subject of SRI because to me it is the legacy I hope the newest generation will leave.

Many young professionals are now building their investments, 401k, piggy banks, mattress stash, savings accounts, CDs, etc, etc with the full understanding of the power and deficiencies our financial institutions have. We understand much better than previous generations the impact our financial investments have on the world.

Our investments are more than just giving us the largest return. Calvert Investments is a company that understands this. Investing in companies that help preserve our environment, have ethical standards of operation, and generally are socially responsible, make for good investments that not only support great companies, but provide a great return. The KLD index shows that the return on SRI investments match that of the S&P 500. SRI is becoming an amazing force within the financial industry.

So back to the original headline, Calvert this month released the following article:
"Ending Forced Child Labor in Uzbekistan: Calvert helps lead a coalition to end forced child labor in Uzbekistan’s cotton fields." Aside from the day-to-day positive impact of Calvert's work, we now see the peripheral impact of SRI. With investors turned activist, their weight can significantly improve and end human rights violations. We know sometimes that pulling heart strings, negotiation and lobbying is a hard and long battle, but when you threaten government financially, you get their attention!
